Al-Azhar Mosque (359~361 AH)/(970~975 AD) is the most important mosque in Egypt and the most famous in the Islamic world. It has been a mosque and university for over a thousand years. The mosque includes more than 380 beautiful marble columns, the capitals of which were brought from ancient Egyptian temples, and some of the “bakyats” rest on white marble columns and on shoulders and arches.
